Hartington signal box and hut.

Yesterday, needing to give my legs a gentle spin after a hard run at the weekend, I grabbed my bike and headed down the Tissington Trail. The trail is one of several disused railway lines in the Peak District which have been converted to multi-user tracks. So where once steam reigned foot hoof and cycle tyre now pass quietly through. I parked at Hurdlow and rode towards Biggin accompanied by my Working Cocker Spaniel, turning back after half an hour.

I passed by Hartington box, which is nicely preserved complete with a full complement of levers, and as I had my camera in pocket I took a few snaps;

The LNWR 'box is I believe open to visitors on certain days.

To the rear can be found this little platelayers hut;

Note that it is windowless. I assume that the entire glass budget was spent on the signalmen...

Inside are rude benches along the walls and a small fireplace;

Roof detail;

The bike, for those interested in classic steel mtbs, is an On-One Inbred from around 2001. Singlespeed, fully rigid, Reynolds 853 frame.

Paul.
