Big load, low bridge.

I live next to a main road, which isn't always a problem as you sometimes see interesting stuff being moved by lorry. Today for example I sat in the living room, surfing t'net, when a pair of low-loaders trundles past loaded with JMAs from Peak Forest. I watch them go down the hill from the comfort of my chair, go and make a brew, then on my return notice that the traffic is backed up and one lorry is slowly reversing back up the A6, and using a side street to back into and turn around.

It turns out that it wouldn't fit under the railway bridge at the bottom of Fairfield Road, being 2 inches too tall! Some irony there I reckon. Anyway, here's a few snaps;

There's been a rake of  JMAs sitting at Peak Forest untouched for a number of years.
The tractor unit was a DAF, from Poole. First snow of winter today as well.

  1. I see you had snow as well today, I guess that didn't exactly help with the reversing up hill.

    1. It didn't seem to bother the driver at all. In fact he was quite cheery!

  2. Brings a whole new meaning to "wagon load freight"! (Hardly the best advert for rail, thought, is it, to see things like this on the road?)

    1. These wagons haven't moved for years, so they're probably not safe to be moved on their own wheels. But you're right, hardly the best advert for rail.

  3. All in a day's work for those guys, I guess...looks like a nice bit of driving anyway. The Daf tractor looks quite elderly, but will no doubt be comfy!

    1. The tractor looked to be a typical well kept heavy haulage unit, complete with heavy duty tow hitch on the front. I should have photographed it as well but instead concentrated on the load.
