Recently I've fancied building some 16mm/SM32 stock. It's a scale that I used to model in many years ago, mainly building Saltford Models locos and stock and Binnie skips. I've seen that there are a few new manufacturers about at the moment who take advantage of laser cutting and 3D printing to make inexpensive kits, and I'd like to build something that follows this approach. I've chosen a Calshot open wagon for my first taste of this style of kit, and I'll be doing an 'out of the box' build rather than adding detail or modifying it. Probably.
The kit comes well packaged in a slim cardboard box;
Inside the envelope, which has a tick list on the outside, the larger parts are loose and there are two smaller envelopes which contain the smaller parts in one and the wheels and axles in the other;
Wheels are 3D printed and look suitable for rough garden use. Bearings are brass eyelets, common in this scale, and coupling hooks are pre-bent wire. The rest is laser cut MDF.
Instructions comprise of 5 sides of A4 and look pretty comprehensive;
This may take a while to complete, there are other projects on the bench, and it will be a nice change to my usual 006 work that is my main interest at the moment.
Paul.
