To make it easier and quicker to disconnect my airbrush (a Badger 150) from its airline for cleaning and storage I bought a quick release fitting from The Airbrush Company.
This, as you would expect, comes in two parts, a male adapter that fits the 'brush and a female socket that fits the hose;
Both parts are very well made and finished.
Here they are fitted;
And coupled together;
I used PTFE tape on the threads of both parts. Mine was Badger branded, but its just the usual plumbers tape in a different packet with a bigger mark-up...
The two parts just push together and seal well with no air leaks, and disconnecting is just a matter of sliding a spring loaded collar back on the hose fitting. Once the 'brush is removed the hose fitting seals itself, so there's no air escaping to either drain the tank or keep the compressor running. The coupling/uncoupling action is nice and smooth as you would expect from a high quality item.
It does interfere slightly with a paint jar when fitted;
However, I prefer to use a colour cup;
I do have to alter my finger positions slightly, but I can still move the 'brush around as easily and effectively as I did before.
As the male/female connection is standard and different connectors can be had to fit different 'brushes and hoses it would be an easy way to use a, say, Iwata airbrush on a Badger hose as different manufactorers use different thread standards on their fittings. It also means that changing between 'brushes if you need to use two or more only takes a moment.
Paul.
