A curved plate was formed from brass sheet to form the cab lower frontplate. To this I soldered a stub of flattened wire on the left, to represent what I believe is the reversing lever, and on the left a short piece of wire was soldered in place for a handwheel to locate on;
The handwheel is a Cambrian item, C42 Brake Handwheels. I used a moulded 'wheel rather than an etched one as I wanted something with a bit more 'presence' when viewed side on.
The brake sits low in the cab, and can be seen in the foreground of these photos. Its basically a short length of scrap etch with two short pieces of brass wire soldered in the ends. One end sits in a hole drilled in the cab front, and the other has a tiny turned brass weight sat on it;
Here's a photo, taken at an odd angle, of the assembly in place showing how it all sits together;
The frontplate will be glued in place next after receiving a coat of primer, but the handwheel and brake lever will be fitted at the finishing stage so that they can be painted separately.
The handwheel is used to engage clutches, turning it one way selects first gear, and the opposite way selects second, neutral presumably being centre.
The next job will involve throwing paint around.
Paul.
